Esplanade Trio - Winners 2022/23

Esplanade Trio - 2022/23

Formed in 2021 under the tutelage of Josephine Vains, the Esplanade trio is made up of three equally driven friends who studied at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. As a group, Sophia, Arjun and Caitlin strive to communicate their musical ideas and connect with their audiences through their performances. Last year they performed at the 2022 Strike a Chord Finals, winning several awards (including the Sutherland Trio mentorship prize) and performed as guest artists at the Herald Sun Aria Competition. Most recently, the trio participated in the Australian Youth Orchestra Chamber Players in February and are currently mentored by the Sutherland Trio. Other Australian ensembles have been a great source of inspiration and guidance for them, including Firebird Trio, Ensemble Liason and Bernaud Trio. Sophia and Arjun are studying for a Bachelor of Music at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music and Caitlin is studying for a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

They enjoy performing a eclectic repertoire and in 2022 are invited to perform in a joint concert with the Sutherland Trio in Melbourne.
